It seems that Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian may not be the only old acquaintances of Han Solo that we get to see in Disney and Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars Anthology movie, with rumours circulating that Lupita Nyong’o could be reprising the role of Maz Kanata from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Speaking on the Steele Wars podcast (via CinemaBlend) about their upcoming Star Wars Pop! Vinyl figures, Funko employee Mark discussed the cast of the Han Solo movie, stating that: “Emilia Clarke, Lupita Nyong’o, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, whether I like Han Solo or not that’s a cast that you really cannot, you know, you’ve got to be excited about that casting alone.”
Now, it is of course entirely possible that the employee has simply made a mistake, but given that The Force Awakens established a long history between Maz and Han, it’s also very conceivable that Lucasfilm will look to flesh this out a little in the spinoff movie. Either way, we will see Nyong’o back as Maz this December with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
