UPDATE: James Gunn developing Starsky & Hutch with Amazon

September 2, 2017 by Gary Collinson

According to Deadline, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is developing a reboot of the classic 70s detective show Starsky & Hutch, which Sony Pictures TV Studios is pitching to potential networks.

The site reports that Gunn will pen the script with his brother Brian and cousin Mark, screenwriters of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and will serve as executive producers, with James potentially directing the pilot. However, Gunn took to Twitter to post the following comment:

UPDATE: Gunn has now taken to Facebook to confirm the news, revealing that it is set to be a continuation of the original series, rather than a reboot, remake or spoof:

Starsky & Hutch aired on ABC between 1975 and 1979 and followed detectives David Michael Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Richard “Hutch” Hutchinson (David Soul). A feature film version, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, was released in 2004.
