More from Guillermo del Toro on Justice League Dark, would consider linking with the Constantine TV show

July 29, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Over the weekend we heard from Guillermo del Toro, who revealed that he’s “still working on” his long-planned adaptation of Justice League Dark, and now the filmmaker has offered up a few more details on the current status of the project, which will delve into the supernatural side of the DC universe…

“Right now the plans are to make it a feature,” said del Toro when asked if he would consider making Justice League Dark for television. “We are deep in the screenplay writing phase. I think we see eye to eye [Warners and DC and myself] on what the movie is and I think it will serve really well as a movie. We came in and I tried 2 or 3 different structures for the screenplay. I wrote a 75 page template for the universe… that takes a year… We needed to create a new story. Then we need to go to a screenplay writer. One draft takes between 6 and 8 months. It really takes a while.”

Del Toro then went on to reveal that he’s open to the idea of sharing the same universe as the upcoming Constantine TV show starring Matt Ryan as the Master of the Dark Arts: “The only thing I made clear to them [the Constantine TV show] is that the TV series will not affect the movie and they said that’s okay. Now if we see the TV series and we can mesh with it or cast the same actor depending on where the movie is going then I would be happy to consider [meshing with the show].”

So, it seems that Justice League Dark is still very much alive. If NBC’s Constantine proves to be a hit when it gets underway in October, could this be enough to convince Warner Bros. to pull the trigger on a supernatural DC team-up?
