Having been confirmed as the next DC Extended Universe movie to shoot after Aquaman, director David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) has taken to Instagram to announce that pre-production is now underway on the Shazam! film.
The movie is based upon Captain Marvel, a character created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck back in 1939, and follows Billy Batson, a young boy who transforms into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word ‘Shazam’.
Meanwhile, during an interview with Collider, Sandberg was asked whether he’ll be looking to cast two different actors to portray Billy and his superhero alter-ego, or if he’d be going down the digital de-aging route. Unsurprisingly, Sandberg ruled out the use of CGI, stating that:
“I wouldn’t want to do that. That seems like way too much of a hassle. So I think it’s just kind of best to have a kid and an adult… I mean Kurt Russell was in the latest Guardians was really well made I thought, but I think there’s a limit to it as well. You probably can’t do someone to be a kid. Why create that hassle for yourself?”
