1997’s Con Air is a bit of a cult favourite among action movie fans (and here at Flickering Myth). It wasn’t a runaway success, but at $224 million worldwide, it’s surprising that a sequel never materialised.
In 2011, director Simon West did say that a sequel was in the works, but it obviously led to nothing. However, in an interview with ScreenDaily, West gave us some idea of where he would have taken Con Air 2. And you might be surprised where he would have gone.
“I would do it if it was completely turned on its head,” The Expendables 2 director said. “Con Air in space, for example – a studio version where they’re all robots or the convicts are reanimated as super-convicts, or where the good guys are bad guys and the bad guys are good guys. Something shocking. If it was clever writing it could work.”
Con Air in space eh?
Simon West is currently seeking funding for his action-comedy movie Salty, which he describes as This is Spinal Tap meets The Hangover.
