Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx has been circling the role of controversial former Heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson for a number of years now, and while it seems there’s been very little in the way of progress since it was first announced, Tyson has now claimed that the project remains a go.
During an interview with The Jasmine Brand, Tyson reportedly said that: “It’s on, as of right now. Jamie Foxx has signed on for it. Filming hasn’t started yet but it’s going to happen. A lot of people aren’t going to like the things I’ve done in my life.”
Foxx had previously claimed back in 2015 that Martin Scorsese was attached to direct the biopic, with Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire, The Wolf of Wall Street) having penned the script, although it is unclear if that still remains the plan.
Tyson has of course enjoyed a whirlwind of a career, with his his meteoric rise to the top of the heavyweight division often overshadowed by his personal life, including a prison sentence for rape, struggles with substance abuse and bankruptcy. However, whether the biopic does come to fruition remains to be seen.
