Fox has announced that it is set to air the ‘documentary’ special Springfield of Dreams: The Legend of Homer Simpson this coming Sunday, October 22nd.
The hourlong special celebrates the 25th anniversary of the classic ‘Homer at the Bat’ episode, which saw Homer leading the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant softball team to the championship game, as well as The Simpsons’ patriarch’s “induction” into the National Baseball Hall of Fame earlier this year.
The special is directed by Morgan Spurlock and contains never-before-seen animated material, including interviews with Homer, Moe, Chief Wiggum and Apu, as well as MLB stars Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey, Jr., Steve Sax, Ozzie Smith, José Canseco, Don Mattingly, Darryl Strawberry and Mike Scioscia, all of whom appeared in the original episode.
“I love The Simpsons so much and am proud to be reunited with them on this incredible special,” said Spurlock. “A special so special that it not only celebrates Springfieldian Homer Simpson, but one that reminds us all, that maybe if we tried a little less, great things can happen.”
The special will air this Sunday on Fox alongside the annual Treehouse of Horror episode of The Simpsons.
