Back in July it was announced that Moonlight director Barry Jenkins has found his next feature with an adaptation of James Baldwin’s novel If Beale Street Could Talk, and now we have some casting news on the project.
As per Deadline, Dave Franco (The LEGO Ninjago Movie) and Ed Skrein (Deadpool) have signed on to the film, along with Stephan James (Race), Colman Domingo (The Birth of a Nation), Brian Tyree Henry (This Is Us), Regina King (The Leftovers) and newcomer KiKi Lane.
If Beale Street Could Talk follows “Tish (Lane), a newly engaged Harlem woman who races against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while carrying their first-born child. It is a celebration of love told through the story of a young couple, their families and their lives, trying to bring about justice through love, for love and the promise of the American dream.”
In addition to directing, Jenkins has written the adaptation, and is producing through his Pastel production company alongside Annapurna Pictures and Plan B.
