Supergirl casts Jesse Rath as Brainiac 5

November 6, 2017 by Gary Collinson

TV Line is reporting that Jesse Rath (Defiance) has been cast in the third season of Supergirl in the recurring role of Brainiac 5.

A member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Brainiac 5 is half-computer, half-organic and travels from the 31st Century to help Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl in her battle with Reign (Odette Annable). Rath is set to make his first appearance in the show in the tenth episode of the current season, titled ‘Legion of Super-Heroes’.

In DC Comics lore, Brainiac 5 has long held an attraction to Supergirl, and it seems that will transfer into the show, with executive producer Andrew Kreisberg previously stating that: “Someone down the road will like Kara a lot, which will be a lot of fun.”

This won’t be Brainiac 5’s first live-action appearance, as the character also featured in Smallville in its tenth season, where he was portrayed by James Marsters.
