Deadline is reporting that Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, 47 Ronin) and director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, White House Down) are teaming up to executive produce a New Angeles, a new sci-fi drama series from Slingshot Global Media set in a virtual reality world. Emmerich will also tackle directing duties on the pilot.
Created by novelist and comic book writer Gregg Hurwitz (who will also write and executive produce), New Angeles is set in the future and centres “on a young man who escapes the mundane reality of his life by entering an exciting virtual reality world called New Angeles. Once down the rabbit hole, he adopts a new identity, becoming the man he was always destined to be, and in the process, unlocking the keys to a mystery that has real-world consequences for him and his family.”
New Angeles is Reeves’ second upcoming TV project with Slingshot, with the star also set to produce and lead the cast of Rain, a globe-trotting action drama based upon the best-selling book series by Barry Eisler.
