The next film in the DCEU has officially begun production. Director David F. Sandberg has shared via his Instagram page that filming on Shazam is now underway, going under the working title ‘Franklin’. The film stars Chuck‘s Zachary Levi as the titular superhero with Asher Angel (Andi Mack) as his younger alter-ego.
Billy Batson was a young boy who discovered a magical doorway to another realm, meeting an ancient wizard. He is given the combined might of the old gods and with one word, he’s able to transform into the powerful hero Shazam to confront evil.
Mark Strong will appear as one of Shazam’s main villains, Doctor Sivana, while a recent rumour has suggested Henry Cavill will make a cameo appearance as Superman in the film as well. Dwayne Johnson is also set to play Shazam’s archenemy Black Adam in a separate film and possibly star in Suicide Squad 2. A
Shazam will see Zachary Levi starring as the titular superhero, with Asher Angel as his young alter-ego Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Grace Fulton as Mary Marvel, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana and Ron Cephas Jones as the Wizard. The film is set for release on April 5th 2019.
