Michael Keaton stages a comeback in new Birdman TV Spot

October 1, 2014 by Robert Kojder

Those clamoring for a little originality have got to have their interest piqued by the latest film from acclaimed director Alejandro González Iñárritu, Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance). The movie stars Michael Keaton as a washed up actor named Riggan Thompson most famous for playing a superhero, kind of like the real Michael Keaton who is most famous for playing Batman. How is that for meta commentary?

Nevertheless, Riggan decides to stage a comeback in the form of a Broadway play, to once and for all prove that he isn’t a has been, along with reclaiming bonds between his friends and family. Is Riggan just a delusional nut-job or does he have a point? Truthfully, it doesn’t matter because Michael Keaton’s performance looks absolutely hilarious and bound for an Oscar nomination.

Furthermore, a new TV spot for the film has been released, and you can watch it below.

So far Birdman has generated quite the positive reception at both the Toronto and New York Film Festivals, namely due to the aforementioned meta commentary, but also due to mind-blowing cinematography from Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity) that composes the film as if it were one really long extended take. Birdman will see a limited release on October 17th.
