Back in January it was revealed that a fourth season of the hit animated series Rick and Morty is not expected until “late 2019”, and now co-creator Dan Harmon has taken to Twitter to clarify why the creative team are yet to start work on the new season – it hasn’t been ordered by Adult Swim.

Considering how wildly popular Rick and Morty has become, it’s a little baffling that Adult Swim is yet to renew the show, but one would have to assume that a fourth season is on the cards. There’s nothing in Harmon’s tweet to suggest that the series has been cancelled, but given that the episodes need to be written, and then animated (past seasons have had an eight-to-nine month turnaround), then late 2019 definitely seems plausible – assuming the renewal from Adult Swim comes soon.
