Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Laura Dern is “eager” to learn about Holdo’s past… and future?

March 20, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Laura Dern, who starred in Star Wars: The Last Jedi as Vice Admiral Holdo, has said that she is “eager” to learn about the character’s past, and perhaps even her future.

Laura Dern starred as a new character in Rian Johnson’s film, playing a Resistance leader who takes command once Leia becomes incapacitated. Holdo eventually goes on to make a grand sacrifice for the Resistance, seemingly perishing in the process.

Speaking with The Evening Standard, Dern wasn’t ready to confirm that the character is gone forever, giving support to the theory that Holdo escaped her doomed ship before its memorable light speed jump.

“This is the message to send to the world: I am absolutely comfortable with that theory. I’m thrilled to be a hero but I remember a long time ago, someone saying, ‘No one dies in space’.”

Dern also expressed a desire to learn about what could become of Holdo, as well as learning more about her history: “I’m eager to learn about the future — or the past — of this character only because I loved playing her so much it would be heartbreaking not to have an experience of playing her again.”
