PS4’s upcoming system software 2.0 update, codenamed Masamune, was revealed at Gamescom this year and was revealed to incorporate majorly requested features for the console such as YouTube and dynamic background themes for the console. Sony also announced a new feature called Share Play would be coming to the console, which you can read about here.
Now though, Sony have revealed a slew of additional features coming in the massive update. In addition to the new themes available, you will also be able to change the colour of the standard PS4 background – gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink and grey will be available initially. Alongside that, media functionality will be expanded, allowing you to play your own music through a USB Music Player.
The What’s New section will receive some updates, giving you a ‘Players You May Know’ option, where the console will suggest new Friends for you. Numerous updates to live broadcasting are also coming, including archived broadcasts and a means of searching for specific games on the Live from Playstation App.
More voice commands will be coming to the console for those who want to use them, as well as an improved content area and library, which now shows 15 of a player’s most used games or apps. Finally, the monthly free games with Playstation Plus will have an Add to Library option, which will add the game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it, saving space on the hard drive.
