On April 18th, 1938, Superman made his first appearance in the pages of Action Comics #1, with creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster launching the concept of the superhero, as well as a pop culture icon and one of the most endearing characters of the 20th and 21st centuries. So, it’s only fitting that Superman becomes the first superhero in space – in action figure form, at least – with La Scatola dei Giocattoli, Mattel Italy, RS Components, Panasonic and Warner Bros. organising a special mission to take Superman up into space…
Orangised as part of ‘Il viaggio dei Giocattoli’ – a project designed to take Mattel’s most famous toys around the world – the Superman mission has been designed to recreate Felix Baumgartner’s daredevil leap from space, with a special spaceship made with a capsule and weather balloon having flown a Superman action figure to the edge of space, before the Man of Steel made his own leap, arriving safe and sound back on Earth.
