In news that is sure to be music to the ears of Bronies everywhere, Variety has revealed that Hasbro Studios has given the go ahead to a feature-length animated My Little Pony movie, which is scheduled to hit the big screen in 2017.
Joining Jem and the Holograms on Hasbro’s in-house Allspark Pictrues, My Little Pony will be written by Joe Ballarini (Ice Age: Continental Drift), with Megan McCarthy – writer-producer on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – serving as co-executive producer.
Launched in 1983, the My Little Pony toy line has spawned several animated series and specials, along with a 1986 theatrical movie which pulled in close to $6 million at the box office. The fourth generation – My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic – premiered in 2010, leading to critical acclaim and a new audience of adult males, or “bronies”.
