Sony revealed that their Playstation subscription service, Playstation Plus, now has an impressive 7.9 million subscribers. They revealed the figure at an earnings call to investors on October 31st.
While Sony didn’t say how many of those subscribers were PS4 owners, CEO Kaz Hirai claimed in May that over half of PS4 owners were subscribers to Playstation Plus. According to GameSpot, Sony’s service could be potentially bringing in $79 million a month. The Playstation Plus service gives its subscribers access to the Instant Game Collection, a collection of free monthly titles that remain tied to your subscription, as well as other benefits.
During the investors’ meeting, Sony also expanded on their plans for releasing Playstation in China. The Chinese government has only recently lifted a ban on foreign games consoles, with Microsoft swooping in speedily, becoming the first console to be legally sold in the country since 2000. Sony seem to be taking a more cautious approach, saying they plan to launch in China in 2015.
