Antoine Fuqua says the 24 movie is dead and buried

March 12, 2013 by admin

The constantly delayed, it’s happening / it’s not happening theatrical film for the TV show 24 is, according to possible director Antoine Fuqua, deal and buried. Speaking to The Playlist, the director of the upcoming Olympus Has Fallen had this to say about the project:

“Yeah, that’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me. I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [Touch]. I don’t think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.”

24 came to an end in 2010 but we’d heard before then that a film was definitely going to happen. Since that time, with each update the movie has looked less likely. As a fan of the show it would have been great to see 24 on the big screen, but the moment has now passed I feel. A film would also be problematic, with the unique real-time staple of the show presumably being lost in a 2 hour feature as they tried to tell an expansive story.

If we definitely aren’t getting a feature film, it is a shame as Jack’s story wasn’t wrapped up in the show because of the desire for a movie. When he last saw Jack he was on the run from the American and Russian military, and it is disappointing that this now seems to be the ultimate ending for the character.

Until it’s back on again I guess.
