Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man to begin filming in London in January?

October 22, 2012 by admin

Robert Downey Jr.’s Armored Avenger may be grabbing all the headlines at the moment as we await the arrival of the first trailer for the upcoming superhero sequel Iron Man 3, but it seems that Marvel Studios is already looking to get to work on ‘Phase Three’ of the Cinematic Universe, with a casting call revealing a possible January start date for filming on the first post-Avengers 2 offering, Ant-Man.

According to FeatureFilmCasting, filming on Edgar Wright’s long in development adaptation will get underway in January, with filming set to take place “at Pinewood Studios in England, and other locations around London and the United Kingdom”. The January start date matches with reports from back in July suggesting that Ant-Man would go into production in London once filming wrapped on the Alan Taylor-directed Thor: The Dark World, which is currently shooting in the capital. Ant-Man isn’t due until November 6th, 2015, so presumably the reason for the early start date is to provide Wright with enough post-production time to complete the extensive visual effects required to bring the miniature hero to the screen.

Should cameras start rolling on Ant-Man in January, it’s certainly going to be a busy year end for Edgar Wright, with the British director currently filming the final instalment of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, The World’s End, which reteams him with Spaced, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Meanwhile, 2013 also looks to be a hectic year for Disney and Marvel Studios, with Ant-Man joining Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2 on their production slate.
