Coronation Street’s Deidre Barlow actress Anne Kirkbride sadly passed away on Monday night at a Manchester hospital. Having served in Coronation Street for over 40 years, she was truly one of the shows best loved characters for fans all over the world, particularly in the UK.
She recently had a prolonged leave of absence from the show and was expected to return later this month, but unfortunately rumours of ill health started to emerge. Only family and close friends knew of her recent sickness, so the news of her passing has come as quite a shock to fans.
During her time in the show she dealt with some serious issues such as domestic abuse, as well as having some great comic moments. She even caused a stir in the real world media during the ‘Free Deirdre Rachid’ campaign after her character was wrongfully imprisoned on the show.
Tributes and fond memories for Anne and her character Deidre Barlow have been flooding in from fans and friends in all the media and social networks. The great British Soap has lost one of its true icons.
