Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs biopic begins production, full cast announced

January 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

After some turbulent developments in the last few months with studios dropping out and cast members moving aside, it now seems that Danny Boyle’s new Steve Jobs biopic is ready for production, with the main cast finalised yesterday.

The film is written by Aaron Sorkin (The Newsroom, The Social Network) based on the biography of Jobs by writer Walter Isaacson, and focuses on three major moments in the life of the Apple man, which include the launch of the Mac, the iPod and NeXT.

Christian Bale and David Fincher were linked to the film when it was being prepped by Sony, is now under the direction of Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) and distributed by Universal Pictures. Michael Fassbender (Frank) is the new lead to take on the role of Jobs, as filming begun in the last few days.

Supporting Fassbender is a stellar cast, including Kate Winslet (The Reader) as former Mac marketing boss Joanna Hoffman and Seth Rogen (The Interview) as Steve Wozniak, former partner and one of the co-founders of the company.

In addition, Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) Apple executive John Sculley, Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) Jobs’ ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan, Perla Haney-Jardine (Spider-Man 3) as Jobs’ daughter and Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man)

Along with the main cast, Deadline has reported that Ripley Sobo, Makenzie Moss, Sarah Snook and Adam Shapiro have also joined the cast.

The film is set for a release in 2016, though it wouldn’t be a shock to see it pop up around awards season towards the end of this year should the film finish on time.
