Eddie Murphy reckons he is best known for his role as Axel Foley in the Beverly Hills Cop series, but doesn’t have the fondest of opinions on the third instalment.
“The third Beverly Hills Cop was garbage,” Murphy told Playboy Magazine.
Beverly Hills Cop movie, which opened in 1984, grossed $234 million domestically while its sequel dipped massively to $153 million. The third effort released in 1994 however, managed just $43 million.
Talk of a fourth movie has been banded around for a while, but Murphy doesn’t think it will be happening any time soon.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen in March, but it is going to be in Detroit,” he said. “And before it happens, they’ve got to get that script right. That movie has to be right. Those movies, when I travel overseas, people say, [in a foreign accent] ‘Hey, Beverly Hills Cop! Axel Foley!’ They call me that s**t. All the movies I’ve done, and they call me that. If we do that movie, it has to be right. Not just thrown together to get a big cheque. I don’t need anymore of those.”
A TV show spin-off faltered before it could even begin back in 2013 and Murphy has said it was because he refused to be a recurring role in the show. “I’m not going to do Beverly Hills Cop on TV,” he explained.
Do you think Beverly Hills Cop 3 was garbage? Or should he be apologising for Norbit and Pluto Nash first?
