According to The Hollywood Reporter, production has been halted on the upcoming action sequel Mission: Impossible 5 to allow director Christopher McQuarrie time to come up with “a new and improved finale” after the original ending was deemed unsatisfactory by Paramount executives.
The site goes on to report that there are no major concerns at the studio, with a high level executive reportedly responding to a question about whether the fifth instalment in the blockbuster spy series is seriously behind schedule with the comment, “Are you kidding? We made World War Z.”
Paramount recently moved up the release of Mission: Impossible 5 from December to July 31st. Joining Tom Cruise in the cast are fellow franchise veterans eremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames, and new additions Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules), Sean Harris (Prometheus) and Alec Baldwin (Still Alice).
