It’s been rumoured for quite some time that Warner Bros. were cooking up a new small-screen animated Batman series to debut sometime after the arrival of Christopher Nolan’s final theatrical effort, The Dark Knight Rises, and now WB Animation exec Sam Register has officially revealed details of the project during his keynote speech at the MIP Junior Market convention in Cannes this past Sunday. Entitled Beware the Batman, the new show will be CG-animated (much like the new Green Lantern: The Animated Series from DCAU legend Bruce Timm) and is to be executive-produced by Glen Murakami, whose extensive credentials include character design work on Batman: The Animated Series and producing duties on the likes of Batman Beyond, Justice League, Teen Titans and The Batman.
According to a report over at WorldsFinestOnline, Beware the Batman will see a “classic-looking Batman teaming up with a gun-toting Alfred Pennyworth and a female ninja sidekick [called Katana]”. As for villains, Register said that the intention is to delve deep into the Rogues Gallery to showcase some of the Caped Crusader’s more obscure opponents: “We went in deeper into the villain library and pulled out some other villains. We didn’t want to do another Joker story… there’s too many of them. We just needed to do something new, so we’re starting off with new villains.”
Following the announcement, ComicBookMovie got their hands on this piece of concept art from the upcoming series…
Beware the Batman is slated to arrive in 2013.
