Deadline has revealed a new Transformers film is in development from Charm City Kings director Angel Manuel Soto, joining the previously-announced movie from Creed II’s Steven Caple Jr. as part of the franchise’s upcoming slate.
Soto will direct this latest film in the Transformers franchise with Marco Ramirez, the co-creator and showrunner of Netflix’s Marvel team-up limited series The Defenders, writing the script.
There is no word on what the plot may be, but Paramount and Hasbro have been working for several years to revamp the franchise with competing scripts from James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery) and Joby Harold (Army of the Dead) and the latter’s script being chosen for Caple Jr.’s film.
There is also an animated prequel detailing the beginnings of the Autobot and Decepticons’ war for Cybertron in the works, but there has been no news on that project for some time.
The Transformers franchise has grossed over $4.8 billion across its six instalments, the first five of which through to 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight were directed by Michael Bay, with Travis Knight then helming the reboot Bumblebee in 2018.
