There’s nothing more challenging in pop culture than being a Friday The 13th fan.
It’s been 15 years since Jason Voorhees slashed on our screens, and it seemed like the dark days were behind us. While there’s a long-standing legal battle that’s kept horror fans from seeing a new round of the iconic slasher franchise, talks of a new Crystal Lake series gave everyone hope.
We reported last year that a Friday the 13th prequel television series from A24, Peacock, and Bryan Fuller was in development. It would be a prequel to the films, freeing it up to reinvent what fans thought they knew about Friday The 13th. However, a new report this week puts that into doubt, but is it all doom and gloom?
Jeff Sneider reported in The Insneider that “A24 has pulled the plug” on the Crystal Lake series. But the day after, Bloody Disgusting published a story saying it’s not over.
Sneider noted, “It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a temporary one, as A24 had no comment. Perhaps Peacock will help the trades shed more light on this project, which was announced back in 2022.”

And Bloody Disgusting confirms that news, saying the Crystal Lake series is “still happening, but there is indeed some retooling of the project happening behind the scenes.”
Little other details are available at the time, but let us know over on our socials if you’re disappointed this incarnation of Crystal Lake doesn’t appear to be moving forward…
