Back in November of last year it was announced that Aardman Animation is teaming with Netflix for a holiday special entitled Robin Robin, and The Guardian brings word that Gillian Anderson (Sex Education) and Richard E. Grant (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) are set to lead the voice cast of the 30-minute stop motion animated short.
Robin Robin will tell the story of “a bird raised by a family of mice. As she grows up, her differences become more apparent. Robin sets off on a daring heist to prove to her family that she can be a really good mouse.”
Robin Robin will feature Bronte Carmichael (Christopher Robin) as the lead, with Anderson voicing the villain Cat and Grant portraying Robin’s mentor Magpie. Adeel Akhtar (Four Lions) will voice the mouse family patriarch.
“Very few people have the ability to authentically purr like a cat,” said writer/director Dan Ojari on Anderson’s casting. “Fantastically, Gillian is one of those blessed few. Having Gillian purr and snarl at us was one of the most thrilling experiences of our lives thus far.”
“When Richard signed up, we had to pinch ourselves,” added co-director Mikey Please. “We’d had pictures of Withnail pinned to our development wall throughout the writing and designing of his character and, having now worked with him, remain convinced that if he were to have a spirit animal, it would be a magpie.”

Robin Robin is slated to premiere on Netflix in time for Christmas 2021.
