The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that it has narrowed the field of 92 submissions for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards to a shortlist of nine movies:
Chile, A Fantastic Woman, Sebastián Lelio, director
Germany, In the Fade, Fatih Akin, director
Hungary, On Body and Soul, Ildikó Enyedi, director
Israel, Foxtrot, Samuel Maoz, director
Lebanon, The Insult, Ziad Doueiri, dirctor
Russia, Loveless, Andrey Zvyagintsev, director
Senegal, Félicité, Alain Gomis, director
South Africa, The Wound, John Trengove, director
Sweden, The Square, Ruben Östlund, director
Absent from the shortlist was Angelina Jolie’s First They Killed My Father, which was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language earlier this week.

The nominations for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced on January 23rd 2018, with the ceremony taking place on March 4th 2018.
