It’s the question that has been on the lips of Star Wars fans since the release of 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens – just who are Rey’s parents? According to Rian Johnson, we’ll find out the answer this December in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and it seems that Adam Driver may have dropped a major hint/spoiler in an interview with GQ Magazine.
“I remember the initial conversations about having things ‘skinned’, peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo’s pretending to be on the outside is not who he is. He’s a vulnerable kid who doesn’t know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he’s playing a role. J.J. had that idea initially and I think Rian took it to the next level [in The Last Jedi]. You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices.”
So, Rey is a princess in hiding? If that’s the case, then the immediate thought is that Rey is the daughter of Leia Organa, and therefore the brother of Ben Solo/Kylo Ren. It would make sense, especially as the main saga is a Skywalker story, but presumably House Organa isn’t the only Royal House in the galaxy far, far away. Who knows, maybe one of her ancestors had Royal Guards?
