Ghost Rider made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut last month as Gabriel Luna took on the role of Robbie Reyes – the All-New Ghost Rider – in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season four.
With the fan reaction to the Spirit of Vengeance extremely positive, questions are now being raised as to the chances of a Ghost Rider spinoff series, and Luna teased the possibility at New York Comic Con yesterday, stating that: “You know, there’s been rumblings about that. It depends on how much you love it. If you love it, we’ll make it.”
Screen Rant also caught up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. producer and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, who gave a very cautious, non-committal response to the question:
“Obviously, whenever we set out with any of our characters we hope they pop, we hope they connect with the audience. In this particular case, it was a combination of three things — really good writing on the part of our staff, a young actor who is both committed to the role and also is not just a visual effect — he is, in the role of Robbie Reyes, connecting with the audience in a very special way — and the third thing is the fact that this is one of those iconic characters that we really hope can grow. Whether or not he spins out or takes off or sticks around – that would fall firmly under the category of you have to wait and see.”
Given that ABC has already tried to launch an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff in Marvel’s Most Wanted, it certainly wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if the network tried its luck again with the Spirit of Vengeance – especially if the character continues to prove a hit with audiences.
