There was much excitement when Disney announced the cast for the upcoming Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series last week, adding new faces and confirming the prequel reunion of Ewan McGregor’s Jedi Knight and his former Padawan learner Anakin Skywalker, aka Hayden Christensen. However, there is one member of the old Phantom Menace crew who definitely won’t be making an appearance in the Disney+ blockbuster, with Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best confirming via his Twitter account that he “will not be in this series”.

Jar Jar Binks has had something of a reappraisal following the vitriolic response to his first appearance when The Phantom Menace was released in 1999, and there were rumours this time last year that the hyperactive Gungan could be set to feature in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Best has now dismissed them, and added a classy sign-off to his announcement by claiming that he was “ecstatic to see folks who I love dearly back together doing great things”.
