In 2005 and 2007, two fan-favorite films were released, both penned by Akiva Goldsman.
In 2005, we saw the release of a Keanu Reeves-led Constantine, and 2007 had the underrated I Am Legend starring Will Smith. Since their release, there have been plenty of conversations about potential sequels to both but little development in over a decade of developmental hell status.
In a new interview, Akiva Goldsman spoke with The Playlist about developing these two projects outside his new series, Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. We could actually see advancements with sequels to Constantine and I Am Legend!
Goldsman reveals that two of his most-anticipated projects are in the works, even if they’re on pause due to the WGA strike.
“My pens are down, so there’s nothing to do. But, yeah, those are the next things I’m writing when I’m allowed to write again, says the writer. He adds, “And I had already begun [I Am] Legend 2 when we [started striking], and Francis [Lawrence], Keanu [Reeves], and I have broken Constantine 2. I just haven’t started typing yet.”
Constantine would see the character return in a possible Elseworlds story under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios. They are set to reboot the DC Universe but could leave room for a fan-favorite return on the level of Keanu Reeves.
As for I Am Legend 2, there’s little known about the project outside of the return of Will Smith and the inclusion of a new character played by Michael B. Jordan.
