Al Pacino and Dan Stevens are being ordained as cinematic clergy in order to team up and perform an exorcism for horror film The Ritual. According to Variety, Stevens (Godzilla x Kong) and Pacino (Heat) will play troubled priests in the David Midell-directed horror.
Written by Midell (The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain) and Enrico Natale, The Ritual tells the inspired by a true tale story of two priests – one questioning his faith (Stevens) and one reckoning with a troubled past (Pacino) – who must put aside their differences to save a possessed young woman through a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms. Per Variety, the film is described as an authentic portrayal of Emma Schmidt, an American woman whose demonic possession culminated in harrowing exorcisms, with her case remaining the most thoroughly documented exorcism in American history.
Beauty and the Beast star Stevens is coming off the back of an impressive one-two with the kind of OTT roles Pacino would have been proud of in Godzilla x Kong and Abigail, while the Academy Award winning screen legend was last seen in hamming it up in House of Gucci.
The Ritual will be released theatrically by XYZ Films sometime in 2025. Let us know whether you’re looking forward to whatever unholy delights Pacino and Stevens can manifest together, or if you’re sick of exorcism movies, all by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
