Variety is reporting that Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider is heading to the small screen, with Eleventh Hour Films and ITV tapping Guy Burt (Borgia) to develop a TV series based upon the teen super spy.
The Alex Rider book series launched in 2000, and has went on to sell over 16 million copies worldwide. The TV series will skew older than the teenage target audience of the books, and will be presented as event dramas for family audiences.
“[Burt] is cleverly expanding the characters whilst staying true to the spirit of the original novels to ensure that the series will appeal to both loyal fans and a new generation of viewers,” said Horowitz.
The series was previously adapted for the big screen in 2006, with Alex Pettyfer starring in Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker, based upon the first book in the series.
