AMC is ready to cast some spells for Mayfair Witches as Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus) is the first to join the series adaptation of the late Anne Rice’s novels, per Variety.
AMC purchased the rights to Rice’s two series The Live of the Mayfair Witches and The Vampire Chronicles in 2020. Mayfair Witches is being developed by Mark Johnson, Rice’s son Christopher Rice, Esta Spaling and Michelle Ashford. Spalding will serve as showrunner while she and Ashford will write and executive produce the series. Anne Rice will also be named an executive producer in a posthumous credit after her passing in December 2021.
Daddario will portray Rowan, “a brilliant doctor who grapples with her fate as the heir to a family of powerful witches.”
“Alexandra is a singular talent who has lit up the screen in everything she’s been in and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board leading the cast of a series that will be a centerpiece of an expanding Anne Rice universe on AMC+ and AMC,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “We found our Rowan and can’t wait for her to meet viewers later this year in a series being brilliantly conceived and led by Esta, Michelle and Mark.”
Mayfair Witches has been given an eight-episode order for its first season and will premiere on AMC and its streaming service AMC Plus in late 2022.
The other Anne Rice series currently in the works is Interview with the Vampire which stars Sam Reid (The Hunting) and Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) as the vampire Lestat and Louis de Pointe du Lac respectively.
