Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander is replacing Michelle Williams in the role of English Queen Catherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of King Henry VIII, in the historical horror-thriller Firebrand.
Jude Law is on board to portray the aging and deteriorating Henry VIII, with the film set to tell it story “through Catherine’s singular point-of-view of the psychological horror of living with a monster—and the remarkable will to not only survive, but thrive.”
Firebrand is being directed by Brazilian filmmaker Karim Ainouz (The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão) from a script by Jessica Ashworth and Henrietta Ashworth (Killing Eve) which is adapted from Elizabeth Fremantle’s bestselling historical novel Queen’s Gambit (title taken, sorry – Netflix).
Vikander can currently be seen in the drama Blue Bayou [read our review here], while she is busy shooting the HBO series Irma Vep and is also attached to reprise her role as video game heroine Lara Croft in the as-yet-untitled sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider.
