In a new report from Deadline it has been announced that director Ridley Scott, along with the cast and crew, have chosen to replace Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer in the upcoming Christmas release thriller All the Money in the World.
It’s an unprecedented, praise-worthy decision considering trailers released for the picture show Spacey to have a major role. Nevertheless, reshoots are set to commence very soon for a couple of weeks to reshoot Spacey’s scenes with Plummer. Despite the additional work, it is said that Ridley Scott is sticking to the release date of December 22nd.
This, of course, is the result of recent serious allegations from Anthony Rapp that Spacey acted sexually inappropriately towards him at 14 years old, subsequently opening the floodgates to similar stories. Netflix fired from Kevin Spacey from arguably their hottest episodic series, House of Cards. Aside from citing the incident as drunken behavior that he has no recollection of, the story is that Kevin Spacey is seeking professional help for his seemingly chronically abusive advances.
All the Money in the World’s closing night première spot at the AFI Film Festival was also cancelled this week due to the ongoing controversy.
Rome, 1973. Masked men kidnap a teenage boy named Paul (Charlie Plummer). His grandfather, J. Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer), is the richest man in the world, a billionaire oil magnate, but he’s notoriously miserly. His favorite grandson’s abduction is not reason enough for him to part with any of his fortune. All the Money in the World follows Gail, (Michelle Williams), Paul’s devoted, strong-willed mother, who unlike Getty, has consistently chosen her children over his fortune. Her son’s life in the balance with time running out, she attempts to sway Getty even as her son’s mob captors become increasingly more determined, volatile and brutal. When Getty sends his enigmatic security man Fletcher Chace (Mark Wahlberg) to look after his interests, he and Gail become unlikely allies in this race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.
All the Money in the World is set for release on December 22nd.
