Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that they are working on feature film adaptation of Electronic Arts The Sims gaming franchise, and that The Last of Us helmer Kate Herron is set to direct.
Deadline has confirmed the reports from a few months ago that Herron, who was also responsible for season 1 of Loki, will direct from her script written alongside Briony Redman (Doctor Who). Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap company and Vertigo Entertainment will produce alongside Electronic Arts.
The plot is obviously being kept under wraps, but when a game is based on a narrative with unlimited potential, Herron will be working within a digital sandbox in which anything is possible.
Sims is a life simulation computer game in which players play as avatars to live out day-to-day lives, enhance personality traits, and build their dream homes and relationships. The video game was created by Will Wright (the creator of 1989’s SimCity) and bowed in 2000. Since then there have been multiple sequels across different gaming consoles and their now-infamous expansion packs to enhance each game.
