Amazon Prime looking at turning PlayStation’s God of War into a TV series

March 8, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

As if they hadn’t just spent a small nation’s GDP on their Lord of the Rings series Ring of Power, Amazon have taken one look at Uncharted‘s critic-proof box-office performance and decided they’d like a slice of the PlayStation pound by eyeing up and adaptation of their flagship fantasy adventure game God of War.

According to Deadline’s exclusive report, Prime Video are in negotiations for a live-action TV series based on the popular videogame, and that if successful God of War would be overseen by The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer/showrunner Rafe Judkins, as well as Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.

Born out of Sony’s Santa Monica Studio by creator David Jaffe,  God of War consists of ten games over multiple platforms, and tells the story of Kratos, a Spartan warrior and latterly the God of War, who was tricked into killing his family by his former master, the original Greek god of war Ares. This triggers a series of events that leads to wars with the mythological pantheons. The more recent adventures introduced his son Atreus as a secondary protagonist, depicting an older Kratos on the path to redemption, bringing the two into conflict with the Norse gods. 2018’s God of War on PlayStation 4  was awarded Game of the Year and sold over five million copies within a month of its release, and over 19.5 million by August 2021.

Let us know if you’re excited about the idea of tuning into a God of War TV series, or whether you’d rather they hurried up and released God of War: Ragnorok on PlayStation, by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth….
