Amazon’s series adaptation of The Wheel of Time has added yet another to its growing cast. The latest actor to join is Daniel Henney (Criminal Minds), who will play al’Lan Mandragoran, better known as Lan, in the series.
In the fantasy series, Lan is the Lord of the Seven Towers and last in the royal bloodline of the fallen kingdom of Malkier. He’ll star alongside Rosemund Pike (A Private War), who will lead the series as Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization Aes Sedai.
The Wheel of Time series consists of 14 volumes and a prequel novel, which have sold over 90 million copies around the world, and takes place in a world where magic exists, but only women are able to use it. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the all-female ‘Aes Sedai’ organization, who embarks on a quest to find The Dragon Reborn, a mythical figure prophesied to fight The Dark One – possibly breaking the world in the process.
Also starring in Wheel of Time is Madeleine Madden (Dora and the Lost City of Gold), Zoë Robins (Power Rangers Ninja Steel), Barney Harris (Clique), Marcus Rutherford (Obey) and Josha Stradowski (Just Friends). Madden will portray Egwene Al’Vere, Robins will play Nynaeve, Harris is Mat Cauthon, Rutherford will be Perrin Aybara and Stradowski is portraying Rand Al’Thor.
Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will showrun with Sony Pictures TV co-producing the series. Westworld and Jessica Jones director Uta Briesewitz will helm the first two episodes of The Wheel of Time. Rosamund Pike will also produce the series while Harriet McDougal, Jordan’s widow, will be a consulting producer for the adaptation.
