Variety is reporting that FX has optioned the rights to Jeffrey Toobin’s book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President for a future season of American Crime Story.
A Vast Conspiracy “pulls apart the threads of the Bill Clinton sex scandal that devoured the late 1990s, framing it as a legal thriller surrounding Paula Jones, Kenneth Starr, and Monica Lewinsky.”
The first season of American Crime Story, The People v. O.J. Simpson, was based on another of Tobin’s books, The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson, and received much acclaim, including a record 10 Emmy Award wins.
There are currently two further seasons of American Crime Story in the works: Katrina, which explores the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina in New Orleans, and Versace, which details the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
