Having been away from directing since 2009’s acclaimed A Single Man, fashion designer turned director Tom Ford is preparing his return to the director’s chair, with more of Hollywood’s A-list circling his new project.
According to various sources, Amy Adams (American Hustle) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) have been linked with the film. In addition, insiders have suggested that Joaquin Phoenix (Inherent Vice) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) are also being sought after for leading roles.
The film in question is an adaptation of Austin Wright’s book titled Tony and Susan. Initially published in 1993 and tells of a woman named Susan who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband, a man whom she left 20 years earlier, asking for her opinion. The book then tracks two stories: the story in the novel, titled Nocturnal Animals, which tells of a man whose family vacation turns violent and deadly; and the story of Susan, who finds herself recalling her first marriage and confronting some dark truths about herself.
While no studio has yet picked up the project, the film is being made by George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures.
