HBO has acquired the rights to upcoming television series Sharp Objects, an adaptation of the novel by Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn, Deadline reports.
The show has been set as a straight-to-series order and sees Amy Adams (American Hustle) star as the lead. Author Flynn is on board the project as writer with Dallas Buyers Club and Wild director Jean-Marc Vallée signed on to helm eight episodes. Marti Noxon (UnReal) is the showrunner.
Sharp Objects “centers on reporter Camille Preaker (Adams) who, fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital, must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.”
