Put the maps away because we’ve found Uncharted 2. Yes, for fans waiting on pins and needles for a follow-up to 2022’s action film Uncharted, the wait is seemingly almost over.
While the company has not officially announced the sequel, Sony’s president of international distribution, Steven O’Dell, teased it during a presentation at the 2024 CineEurope trade show.
Starring Tom Holland and Mark Walhberg, the film was helmed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway.
Uncharted was released in 2022, the first major year for cinemas post-pandemic. Despite mixed reviews, it was a box office success, grossing $407 million worldwide on a $120 million budget, making it the fifth-highest-grossing video game film of all time.
With the two post-credits and plenty of source material to build on, Uncharted 2 could possibly be another surprise hit for Sony. However, the announcement does not guarantee that the director or actors who made the first film work will be returning. Before this, the only movement we’ve heard about this was in December 2023 when Wahlberg revealed in an interview that the script is being written.
