With Ruben Fleischer busy with post-production on Zombieland: Double Tap, it seems that Sony is wasting little time in finding a replacement for the filmmaker on Venom 2, with Variety reporting that the studio has recently met with three potential directors for the Marvel sequel.
According to the trade, Andy Serkis (Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle), Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) are among the names who have been speaking to Sony executives, although it’s not believed at this point that a front-runner has been identified.
Despite producer Amy Pascal stating recently that there’s “no timetable” for Venom 2, it’s thought that Sony is looking to get production underway in the fall ahead of an October 2020 release.

Tom Hardy will be reprising his role as Eddie Brock in the film, and it’s expected that Venom will find himself going up against another fan favourite symbiote in Carnage following Woody Harrelson’s brief cameo as Cletus Kasady in the first movie.
