Disney seems to have the magic to get Angelina Jolie back in the gown and horns. In a new profile from The Wall Street Journal, the publication looked at Jolie’s life and career while also hinting towards her future.
During the story, Jolie claims she “lost the ability to live and travel as freely” after her divorce from Brad Pitt. With a move from Los Angeles to Cambodia nearing, she hints at a potential retirement from the acting world.
She looks back at her time in Cambodia in 2000 while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider before noting she “wouldn’t be an actress today” and when she was starting, it wasn’t assumed of her to “share so much.”
However, Jolie has a few films on her upcoming slate before she closes it up. The article says Jolie has five projects: Kung Fu Panda 4, the drama Every Note Played, Pablo Larrain’s Maria, Maude v Maude with Halle Berry, and Maleficent 3.
Following the surprise hit Maleficent (2014) and the sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019), Maleficent 3 seems part of Bob Iger’s new strategy to go for sequels to the most beloved films during his first time as CEO. The exec is tapping into Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia sequels, so bringing back Jolie for this would be a substantial hit, especially when facing off against an adult Sleeping Beauty.
Pablo Larraín’s Maria is first on the docket; the film is a biographical drama film of Maria Callas starring Jolie, with Valeria Golino as her sister Yakinthi and Haluk Bilginer as Aristotle Onassis.
