Having first been linked to the project back in 2017, Angelina Jolie is now set to move forward with her next directorial project Without Blood, with the Oscar-winner set to direct the film as part of a new deal with Fremantle.
Jolie, whose previous directing credits include In the Land of Blood and Honey and Unbroken, has signed a three-year deal to make a “sophisticated, powerful and internationally focused” slate of feature films, TV series and documentaries for the TV giant, and Without Blood will be first out of the gate.
Based on the novel by Alessandro Baricco (Silk), Without Blood tells “the story of a girl’s quest for revenge and healing during a time of conflict.” Jolie has written the script and will also serve as director and producer, with filming set to get underway in May.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Angelina, joining creative forces in the next phase of her extraordinary career as a producer, director, actor and humanitarian,” said Fremantle Global CEO Jennifer Mullin. “Fremantle and Angelina share the passion and ambition of telling compelling stories from everywhere in the world, for everyone in the world. We embrace and support the creative independence of our partners and look forward to working with Angelina to bring powerful and unique stories to a global audience.”
“To have the freedom to tell important stories and bring them to a global audience is at the heart of this agreement with Fremantle,” added Jolie. “I am excited to be working with such a passionate and forward-looking team that has an international perspective.”
