Deadline is reporting that Angelina Jolie is in talks to star in TriStar’s upcoming war drama Shoot Like a Girl, which is based upon the upcoming memoir of U.S. Air Force Major Mary Jennings Hegar, a Purple Heart recipient who served as a helicopter pilot during three tours of Afghanistan.
The project will follow Hegar during his time in Afghanistan, flying combat search-and-rescue missions, culminating in a harrowing rescue attempt that would earn her the Purple Heart as well as the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor Device. Back on American soil, she also embarked on her greatest challenge – eliminating the military’s Ground Combat Exclusion Policy, which prevented kept female armed service members from officially serving in combat roles.
Shoot Like a Girl is being scripted by Frank Baldwin, and TriStar is looking to lock in Jolie’s involvement before securing a director and putting the project on the fast track.
