During an interview with Net-A-Porter, Anna Kendrick was asked whether she has any interest in portraying a superhero role (a compulsory question when interviewing anyone yet to be cast in a Marvel or DC blockbuster), with the actress offering up a rather interesting response.
“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her],” says Kendrick. “I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”
Created by Will Murray and Steve Ditko, Doreen Green – a.k.a. Squirrel Girl – made her debut in Marvel Super Heroes #8 in 1992 and despite her rather silly name, she has some pretty effective powers including superhuman strength and agility, a prehensile tail, razor-sharp claws and of course the ability to communicate with squirrels. She’s also fought and defeated many powerful supervillains, including Doctor Doom and even Thanos.
